| Kagat Ng Dilim |

This seems to be a great horror film - great screencaps too. Is the director the veteran production designer?

Most definitely Ron... As a matter of fact he is. Kagat Ng Dilim is his third short film.

Hi Jojo!
For a moment, I thought this was a classic pinoy horror film partly because it was in black and white until I read your review. Yes, this look very interesting despite not liking the lead actor hehe... I would watch if only because it was written and directed by Cesar Hernando. Another insightful review!

Hello Dennis!
Maybe you were thinking of Pagsapit Ng Dilim with Perla Bautista although that film was in color.
I've been looking forward to seeing Kagat Ng Dilim since 2009 at the Indio Bravo Film Festival in New York where it was supposed to be screened before Jay but was cancelled at the last minute.
I'm quite surprised that you don't like Piolo Pascual. I think he was serviceable in this short film especially towards the end. Direk Cesar has done three shorts and was in the process of finishing his fourth film. Unfortunately, he had to pull out his latest project Ang Mekaniko Ni Monica from Cinema One Originals which would've been his feature film debut.

We saw Pagsapit Ng Dilim many times on IBC-13 with my siblings in the '80s and definitely freaked us out hehe.. I thought I missed another old pinoy horror flick that is similar in title or a remake!
Piolo is an ok actor for me but because of his looks somehow marred his being an able actor with his succeeding films. His last one certainly doesn't help either.
Thanks for the insights as always!

Piolo should rethink the kind of roles he's been playing lately. His character in Kagat Ng Dilim was risky since he was being groomed as a matinee idol at the time. Lagarista was a good start, then Kagat Ng Dilim what followed after was a string of hits via his team-up with Judy Ann Santos.
Piolo thought that by starring and co-producing Manila, his fans would finally accept him as an actor and not just a handsome face but his legions of followers stayed away from the film. I guess Manila's lackluster performance at the box office somehow affected his decision to star in such films...

I was surprised nga with Lagarista, not great but at least not his usual flicks. Hopefully, he will make very challenging and unusual films. Manila leaves much to be desired, sobrang ambitious ang dating ng film/s, Bernal at Brocka pa ang pinagkuhanan ng material.
6:44 PM
Lagarista may not be a great film but its much better than the kind of movies they show nowadays. I'm hoping that Piolo will star in a film worthy of his talents very soon. There are many wrong things about Manila.
2:20 AM
Lagarista is definitely better. Thanks uli Jojo!
5:02 AM
I liked Lagarista a lot in spite of it's many faults. It was nostalgic for me since I grew up watching movies in theaters such as the ones featured in the film, some of them were even in the exact same moviehouses in Manila...
4:18 AM
Very nostalgic talaga! Salamat uli Jojo. :-)

You're most welcome Dennis!
