| Room 69 |

Hi Jojo!
I take it that you didn't like the movie, hehehe. Has the title of the movie nothing to do with the story and just a bait to the moviegoers? Are the sex scenes even erotic and well executed?
Regards!
9:50 AM
If there's one thing I liked about the movie, it's Sarsi Emmanuelle's performance.
The sex scenes pale in comparison to the other films shown at the time. They're not at all erotic. Although I have to admit, the title is quite catchy...
10:03 AM
Sarsi's always good. They probably have a pene version of it somewhere. Isnt it the practice with these bold films in those days?
10:08 AM
There was no pene version of Room 69. What you saw is the complete movie. It was shown in 1985, a year after Isla made waves at the Manila Film Center and months before Scorpio Nights. They started showing penekulas a year later...
10:14 AM
Aside from the out-of-placed use of foreign classical music, i think that Isla is a great film.
10:39 AM
Isla has its moments. Unfortunately, the video release doesn't do justice to its stunning camera work.
The music in Room 69 tends to be annoying at times. I'm quite surprised that you haven't said anything about Lito Gruet's performance in the movie.
1:20 PM
I havent seen it yet but i'm about to see it tonight.
1:53 PM
I'm dying to know what you think of his performance ;)
3:16 PM
The uneven mix of melodrama and comedy generates so much unintentional hilarity. The "partaking" scene where the girls are smoking pot then one by one starts telling their sad stories while a nondescript music is playing in the background, is the most laugh-out loud scene of them all. It's also screachingly loud, everyone take turns screaming their lungs out! Those expecting to see an out-and-out sex movie will be hugely disappointed. Most of the girls are hot though especially Irma Alegre and Sarsi Emmanuelle. The softcore sex scenes with the usual slow romantic music, are like cut/edited pene movie scenes, it's hilarious! Celia and Rosemarie seems like they had fun in the movie. Lito Gruet looks as wooden as in Sensual. His bestfriend is equally an uninteresting actor.
3:40 PM
There's plenty of toilet humor (no pun intended!) and the acting with the exception of Celia Rodriguez, Rosemarie Gil and Sarsi Emmanuelle is disastrous. I have to admit there's this one funny moment when Sarsi and Irma were talking to a couple of prospective customers who happen to be midgets. Other than that, Room 69 has nothing else to offer.
I think Lito Gruet is less wooden here than in Sensual. At least, he manages to convey different emotions adequately...
10:37 PM
I dont know, i just fnd him boring to watch. Ditto to the actor who played as his bestfriend.
2:05 AM
Veru interesting thoughts on Room 69 Jojo!
5:24 AM
Lito Gruet was better in Sensual though his role didn't require much acting. As for Raul Calma, he seemed too stiff and uncomfortable during the sex scenes...
5:24 AM
Maraming salamat Dennis!

Hi Jojo!
The 'comedy' in Room 69 is obviously very forced but I have to admit that some scenes were indeed funny.
I thought Sarsi was also good in comedy. The moment she and Myra Manibod steal the dance floor and began dancing were funny. The look of Sarsi whilde dancing had me in fits. And yes, the midgets scenes are so hilarious. They have to carry the midgets inside their casa just to get on with their business!
The toilet humor were of course done in poor taste but what made me laughed was the reaction of Sarsi when they were splashed with urine while sleeping. "Mga pangit! Pagalingin n'yo muna mga Herpes n'yo!" Haha.
The rivalry between Celia Rodriguez and Rosemarie Gil reminded me of their roles in 14 going Steady, only in that movie, they were school teachers.
3:10 AM
There were some funny moments in the movie like that scene with the midgets which nowadays should be politically correct. Sarsi was excellent in her comic scenes. The reference to herpes is very 80's.
The on screen battle between Celia Rodriguez and Rosemarie Gil albeit repetitious, added a few laughs. They made the movie more bearable to watch. Most of the humor should have been left in the toilet, where it belongs...
12:26 AM
Just like you mentioned before, three actresses made the film watchable- Celia, Rosemarie and Sarsi. The worst acting has got to be Lito Gruet and Raul Calma's!
9:15 AM
You can also add Myra Manibog and Glenda Araneta to your worst acting list...
