| Malikot |

Hi Jojo!
Nice insights on the film. I don't recall seeing the film even on TV.
The film's title a bit suggestive but it felt more like a serious drama than Alma's previous works that capitalizes more on her body.
10:23 AM
By the way, love your post's title hehe...
10:31 AM
Hello Dennis!
Thanks so much... I'm quite surprised that not a lot of people are aware of this movie. Alma Moreno appeared in a handful of significant films and I firmly believe Malikot to be one of them. The original title was Huwag Kang Malikot Sa Aparato which the censors deemed to be too suggestive that's why it was shortened to Malikot. Alma does here share of sexy scenes in the movie but not as bold as her appearances in Bomba Star or Lumakad Kang Hubad Sa Mundong Ibabaw...
10:32 AM
I wanted my post to have a catchy title... I'm glad it caught your attention.
11:46 AM
Hi Jojo,
Alma was so pretty in her younger days and like the other sexy stars in the 80s, it's an added bonus that she can act too.
I'm not usually a fan of Eddie Rodriguez as a director, but based on your incisive review this seems to be one of his good ones.
Regards,
RSE

Hello Ron,
Alma was definitely one of the most beautiful faces who graced the silver screen. I always thought that she can act proof of which were her performances in Mania By Night, Bomba Star, Ligaw Na Bulaklak and Malikot where she was pitted against three of the country's top dramatic actors Christopher de Leon, Jay Ilagan and Vic Silayan. But it was in an episode of Lino Brocka Presents Hiyas that made me realize that she can really showcase exceptional dramatic ability.
As for Eddie Rodriguez, he has always been an excellent filmmaker. Among his best are Pag-Ibig Ko'y Awitin Mo, Unang Yakap, Init O Lamig, Turuang Apoy and this one. Although when he started directing for Viva in the late 80's he never made another film worthy of his talent.
10:59 PM
I have no idea with the movie Jojo and the cast is very impressive pala(Jay Ilagan, Christopher De Leon and Vic Silayan)! Imdb.com doesn't include Malikot in her filmography.
The original title Huwag Kang Malikot Sa Aparato is quite catchy and funny as well. I suddenly remember if my memory serves me right. Aliw used to be called Aliw, Sir? but was deemed to suggestive, too.
I agree with Ronald/RSE, Alma is very pretty during that time.
Yes, I love your post's title hehe... Just like 'Where's The Funny?" (Haha) in Galawgaw but I wasn't able to comment na on that.
12:54 AM
Alma is low-key here in terms of performance.
3:59 AM
Malikot's cast is competent indeed added to the fact that Eddie Rodriguez was also the country's foremost Drama King. I realized na wala sa IMDB ang Malikot. Maraming mga pelikula ang wala sa kanilang listahan...
I thought the original title would confuse most moviegoers and think it might be a comedy. Malikot is a more catchy and sexier title. You're right, Dennis! Aliw's title used to be Aliw, Sir? but again the censors intervened and had to change the film's title.
I try my best to make the titles of my posts a bit more intriguing to stir interest...
4:00 AM
I couldn't agree more Arcy... Alma's performance in Malikot is much better than her FAMAS nominated role in I Confess, although she was also good in Babalik Ka Rin...
1:21 PM
Yes, Eddie Rodriguez is very visible that time. I do remember him in Gabun, High School Circa and Sharon's father in Bukas Luluhod Ang Mga Tala.
One word title takes a different meaning nga. Just like Aliw na tinanggal ang Sir pero you still get the theme/message.
I've been reading your past posts and found those other post title's quite funny not to mention catchy. ;-)
1:40 PM
Most visible talaga... he appeared in a lot of movies during the time and managed to direct films as well.
Usung-uso kasi noon ang mga one word titles dahil mas malakas ang recall but siyempre when Viva started producing komiks based melodramas na kilometric ang titles, 'yun naman ang maging trend.
Thanks for reading my old posts and for constantly visiting my blog, Dennis!
4:02 AM
Danny Zialcita is also famous for coming up with lengthy titles like Nagalit ang Buwan...Viva used to ask naman questions sa mga movies nila - Bakit Iisa Lamang Ang Puso?, Bakit Kaytagal Ng Sandali?, Bakit Ikaw Ikaw Pa Rin? .....
Your blog posts are worth visiting more than once Jojo.
8:41 AM
Hello. I don't recall much of thie movie but didn't Alma's character got shot at in the end (from Vic's hired goon)?
Also, would you agree that Rio Locsin is a much more natural actress than Alma? After seeing Ina Kapatid Anak in which Rio more than stood her ground against Lolita & Charito, I couldn't imagine Alma doing the same.
2:22 PM
Thanks so much Dennis! Danny Zialcita's movies also have kilometric titles. There'a also May Lamok Sa Loob Ng Kulambo and it's sequel May Daga Sa Labas Lungga...
The only Viva movie na nagustuhan ko ang title was Huwag Mong Itanong Kung Bakit...
2:27 PM
Hi Carlo,
No Alma's character wasn't shot at the end of the movie.
Of the three, meaning Alma, Lorna and Rio, Rio was the first one to show maturity as an actress. I didn't like her performance in Ina, Kapatid, Anak but she was brilliant in Manila By Night na kahit hindi siya ang nag-dub ng lines niya she was still nominated sa Urian as Best Actress and of course in Haplos. Alma on the other hand was good in Mga Bilanggong Birhen and Ligaw Na Bulaklak also in Manila By Night and she was able to handle herself quite well in Malikot...
11:02 PM
Yes, I like that title, too Jojo. I also like Bakit Kaytagal Ng Sandali? Not only for the title but the story as well. Well-told story of greed in my book. Viva didn't released that on dvd!
3:00 AM
Most of the films you mentioned were released on Betamax / VHS format but surprisingly not on VCD or DVD. I used to order my videotapes at Viva Video in LA but they closed their offices in the late 90's...
3:45 AM
You're absolutely right Jojo. Those we're not released in digital format videos. I long for those days when tagalog betamax covers were actual movie posters used to promote the movies. It gives credibility to the movie itself in my opinion.
1:57 PM
Maganda talaga ang cover art ng mga Beta at VHS tapes kasi nga they use the original poster... I scanned some of my covers and uploaded them on this blog's facebook page, sana mabisita mo...
3:05 AM
Thanks for heads-up Jojo! I will.
4:35 PM
Sige Dennis, salamat sa pagbisita and let me know what you think...
12:09 AM
Jojo, just joined na rin. Nice Facebook page. More video covers posts! hehe... I dig looking at tagalog posters and original video covers!
1:41 AM
Thanks so much Dennis! Sige will try to upload more video covers and check out the videos ng mga clips ng movies that I reviewed sa blog...
