Gusto Mo Bang Manood Ng PRIVATE SHOW?

Private Show

hi jojo! was this chito rono's first film? did jaclyn win any award for this one,or did she win in TAKAW TUKSO? jaclyn became quite a sensation i think in 86-87,after this 2 movies and ITANONG MO SA BUWAN and OLONGAPO.and what was gino antonio's first film, was he discovered by douglas quijano?

    hello dexter!

yes, Private Show was Chito Rono's impressive film debut. Jaclyn didn't win any award for her perfomance in this movie, instead she was honored for Takaw Tukso. she made her impressive debut in the forgettable flick Chikas in 1984 but she was able to make the transition to sex dramas a couple of years later via this film. i'm quite sure that this was also Gino Antonio's first movie and no, he wasn't discovered by Douglas Quijano.

jojo,do you think if CLAUDIA ZOBEL and STELLA STRADA had the chance todo more challenging roles, would have they become award winning actresses, too? but i remember claudia being nominated for sinner or saint and was pitted against VILMA SANTOS etc,and stella received a posthumous recognition for,was it hanguin mo ako sa putik? of course,SARSI EMMANUELLE won a star award but didnt quite reached the status of jaclyn.

i would say Claudia Zobel had a head start over Stella Strada. she already got critical acclaim for Mario O'Hara's Uhaw Sa Pag-Ibig which was her second film followed by an URIAN nomination for Sinner Or Saint. a year after committing suicide, Stella Strada received a posthomous nomination from the FAMAS for her last film Elwood Perez' Puri. Sarsi Emmanuelle had a most promising career, after delivering an impressive performance in Boatman and Naked Island, she was personally handpicked by Peque Gallaga to star in Virgin Forest, it was followed by another impressive performance in Brocka's White Slavery although she was overshadowed by Jaclyn's quiet and nuanced performance in the same film. afterwhich she was relegated into doing films like Bomba Queen and it was downhill ever since.

jojo, you know jaclyn when she delivers her lines, some say na parang tumutula or parang makata,or parang too subtle or underacting, what do you think of it?

  6. dexter says:
    5:31 PM

just curious jo,did this movie end in tragedy, just like BOATMAN?

  7. dexter says:
    5:41 PM

hello again jojo! how about coming up with a top ten bold movies of the 80s or something? what would you think of my list?- 1.scorpio nights 2.boatman 3.isla 4.virgin forest 5.alapaap 6.snake sisters 7.takaw tukso 8.white slavery 9.sinner or saint 10.virgin people

  8. Jojo Devera says:

    hello dexter!

i'll answer all your inquiries one at a time. what do i think of Jaclyn's acting? under an instinctive filmmaker, she can deliver a great performance. case in point would be Private Show, Takaw Tukso, White Slavery and Itanong Mo Sa Buwan. she was also excellent playing supporting roles in Magdusa Ka!, Alabok Sa Ulap and Macho Dancer. i like her unnderstated type of acting, it's just perfect for the role she portrays.

Myrna is a tragic character to begin with. i would say that the ending to Boatman was more violent. Private Show's aggressive symbolisms gave the viewers a clear idea on Myrna's slow descent to hell.

coming up with such a list seems to be a great idea. i agree with most of your choices but it's hard to come up with a list that doesn't include films like Bomba Star or Disgrasyada which started the bold trend in the mid 70's. in the 80's they came up with bolder movies if there is such a word. the films shown at the Manila Film Center and the pene movies as well. it's not impossible to come up with a list but i have to think twice or maybe three times more.

jojo,it seems like most bold female stars eventually become fine actresses, but sad to say, this can never be said to their male counterpart. think edgar mande, patrick de la rosa, rafael roces, tani cinco,al tantay, gino antonio, mark joseph, sino pa ba? oh,maybe the exception of daniel fernando, alan paule.

I saw this film just by accident. SCORPIO NIGHTS was supposed to be shown in Sm Megamall where PELIKULA AT LIPUNAN in 1992 line up this Gallaga classic. Unfortunately the idiots at the MTRCB disapproved the film for its 1:30 pm screening. Nick de Ocampo had no choice but to announce that they will replace it with PRIVATE SHOW but later in the evening last full show. Imagine the outraged of the male moviegoers who lined up to get the ticket as early as 12 pm. The line was extended up to the entrance of Jollibee outside the cinema of Cinema 6! Undaunted, I waited for the last full show screening and it was a real eye-opener for me. I've never seen an actual live show but this film earned Jaclyn Jose so much respect in my book. Few actresses can combine some points of view to act and a nice body to show. You can actually smell also the sweat of the live sex performers. Rono made an auspicious movie debut! The last scene where Jaclyn staring at the ceiling high in drugs was unforgettable.

there's a hint of truth to that observation dexter. i wouldn't say that all male bold actors didn't amount to anything. Al Tantay appeared in Bernal's Hinugot Sa Langit and Gamitin Mo Ako while Daniel Fernando had a very promising career starring in Scorpio Nights and even winning Best Actor for his performance in Macho Dancer. Allan Paule sustained his career by doing more character roles in movies. he's still active up to now. Gino Antonio delivered the performance of his career in 'Di Maghilom Ang Sugat unfortunately he was never recognized for the film since he never used his voice was dubbed by someone else. Mark Joseph went legit becoming one of Vilma Santos' leading men in Tagos Ng Dugo. the problem was choosing the right project and it's really difficult for them to go mainstream after appearing in pene movies.

    hello Ronald!

did they screen a 35mm print of the film at Pelikula At Lipunan? that's when you can appreciate the cinematography. it's the most astounding merit of the movie. the scenes inside the torohan was so claustrophobic. that's probably why you can smell the live sex performers. an impressive film debut indeed. too bad Rono rehashed the plot in Curacha...

  15. Ronald says:
    5:34 AM

Yep its in 35mm! Its fuckingly good! The cinematography and production design really floats in the big screen! I was nearly pushed too hard getting the ticket for this one because of the big crowd that trooped to Sm Megamall Cinema hoping that they will screen Gallaga's sex opus SCORPIO NIGHTS. I nearly lost my shoes, man.

  16. Jojo Devera says:
    5:37 AM

kung nagkataon pala umuwi kang yapak... it's great to know na meron pang 35mm print ang movie. i wonder bakit walang kopya ng Takaw Tukso? Private Show was produced by William Pascual as well.

  17. Ronald says:
    5:46 AM

It was really a big crowd, i cant forget that Saturday. But still PRIVATE SHOW had SRO screening.

  18. Jojo Devera says:
    5:49 AM

imagine that... i remember watching it sa Sampaguita Theater and there were about 15 people watching... maybe people became aware years later of how important this film is.

  19. Ronald says:
    5:57 AM

Jojo was this film also shown at Manila Film Center? Joe Tutanes also did the cinematography of ALAPAAP right?

  20. Jojo Devera says:
    6:12 AM

i don't remember it being shown at the Manila Film Center... i saw it during the theatrical run. yeah, Joe Tutanes did the camerawork for Private Show and he also made movies with Tata Esteban

  21. Ronald says:
    6:14 AM

Did the idiots made some deletions when you saw the film in 1986?

  22. Jojo Devera says:
    6:21 AM

they shortened some of the toro sequences and the banana cutting scene, that's it.

  23. dexter says:
    12:58 AM

really, there was a banana scene in this movie jojo, was it jaclyn's? and is it really what i think it is? banana cutting? i remember one of rey de la cruz' wards, brandy ayala having a banana scene in BOMBA QUEEN,i think sarsi was a bit upstaged with the publicity because all the writers would just write about is that particular scene, and oh also i remember reading that greggy liwag's balls were seen in his lovescene with myra manibog.

  24. Jojo Devera says:
    4:14 AM

there was such a scene in Private Show although it was just implied unlike in Bomba Queen where it was added to the video release and it was Myra Manibog who did it in the film. Brandy Ayala had a deep throat scene in Mario O'Hara's Bed Sins.

  28. Jojo Devera says:
