| Atsay |

I haven't seen this one but Eddie Garcia always include it on his lists of favorite films that he made.
6:14 AM MST
you haven't seen Atsay? it's Eddie Garcia's best film and you're right one of his favorites as well. the best thing about the movie other than Nora's performance and Garcis's direction is Romy Vitug's cinematography. the opening burial sequence is one of the best scenes in the movie.
6:20 AM MST
The only Eddie Garcia film that I saw is the sex-thriller KUNG KASALANAN MAN, jo. Is Eddie better filmmaker than Lamangan?
6:28 AM MST
you definitely should add Atsay to your must watch list. Eddie is definitely a better filmmaker than Lamangan if given a good script. he made a string of films for Viva in the 80's but sad to say nothing can surpass his work in Atsay... not even Saan Nagtatago Ang Pag-Ibig? which was his best Viva film.
6:32 AM MST
I'll try to catch it on Cinema One. Was he the one who made IMORTAL?
6:38 AM MST
Cinema One does show it from time to time... it's also available on VCD but they trimmed the movie from its original 2hr 35min running time to fit it onto two VCD's. yeah he also directed Imortal.
6:41 AM MST
IMORTAL is so bad. Too bad Eddie Garcia is underrated.
6:51 AM MST
i've always seen Imortal as a rehash of Bilangin Ang Bituin Sa Langit. he's underrated as a director but way too overrated as an actor although he gave some of the most memorable performances in Philippine Cinema. he defied convention by playing a closeted gay man in Tubog Sa Ginto and a caricature of it in Star? Eddie is an instinctive filmamker. this was evident in most of the movies he directed for Viva. the problem was his choice of material.
6:54 AM MST
Was his early features at Viva at par with Laurice Guillen's KUNG MAHAWI MAN ANG ULAP? His role as the filmmaker in Bernal's PAGDATING SA DULO is so memorable and hilarious.
7:00 AM MST
unfortunately none of his komiks based melodramas were on par with Kung Mahawi Man Ang Ulap. i think his role in Pagdating Sa Dulo mirrors the work he did in Atsay by not compromising his art.

Hi Jojo,
I must say that this is a good film. The only thing is Nora's wig is so obvious and big it distracted me.

RSE

Atsay (the complete version) must be seen by all film enthusiasts Jojo.
6:10 AM MST
Hi Ron!
I do belive Atsay is a very good film and probably Eddie Garcia's best. I was lucky to have seen this in the theaters during the 1978 MMFF at the height of the Nora-Vilma rivalry. Her wig didn't bother me as much here as it did in Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos...
6:11 AM MST
I hope it was the version screened yesterday at the CCP, Dennis...
1:08 PM MST
I've read the comments in Facebook Jojo, they used the vcd format. Too bad.
2:12 PM MST
I read it as well Dennis... Sana hiniram nila ang copy from the ABS-CBN Film Archives dahil they have the 2 hour 32 minute version na meron din ako. Sayang dahil this was the first Nora Aunor starrer featured by SOFIA although hindi naman overlooked film ang Atsay at lalong hindi underrated filmmaker si Eddie Garcia...
3:36 AM MST
Hopefully, there will be a bigger turnout of attendance, not necessarily only Noranians but just plain viewers. I don't think ipapahiram ng ABS ang copy nila haha. I'm hoping there will be another Nora Aunor Film Retrospcective by SOFIA in the future.
6:19 AM MST
Ipapahiram naman nila since they're also part of SOFIA... Sayang dahil I would've lent my copy to the screening kaya lang wala nang time nung malaman kong VCD copy ang ipapalabas. I wanted the first Nora Aunor SOFIA screening to be an event. Nanghihinyang lang ako.
